Course Content

Congratulations on your appointment as an instructor at CBS and welcome as an ambassador for teaching in higher education. We look forward to inviting you to the mandatory course for all new instructors at CBS who are our primary target group. During the course you’ll been instructed by skilled teachers with many years of experience in teaching and learning at universities and other educational institutions.

This course has a general and introductory focus, and the purpose is three-fold:

First of all, we’d like to introduce you to the key role as an instructor being a sort of co-teacher and managing a bridging connection between the students and the course coordinator. We’ll present you with the concept of learning strategies and focus on how you can support your students and engage them in deep learning while also reducing your own possible concerns about teaching as a profession when meeting students of various backgrounds with different levels of motivations and ambitions.

Secondly, you’ll be inspired both from a theoretical perspective as we introduce you to a couple of selected tools from our “teacher’s toolbox”, which we encourage you to implement in your classroom – ie. how to provide constructive feedback, set up expectations, the power of good examples, visualizations, etc. The list is not exhaustive, and as your teaching career develops, you’ll likely build upon and further develop your skills, which we only encourage.

Thirdly, we invite you to conduct and facilitate a mini class while applying some of the tools from above, participate in many various discussions with your co-instructors, get inspired on how to set up your materials and course in Canvas and while we’ll be doing activities such as reflections exercises and ending the day on a high note with a group presentation in the class room related to the content of the course.

Collectively, this will hopefully support your journey in teaching as an instructor at CBS.

A light breakfast and full lunch is included for free. There will also be coffee and tea during the day.
